Why Strength Training?

Let's talk about some of the benefits of strength training!

Why strength training? Good question! Clients often believe if they don't want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger or The Rock they don't need to strength train. Typically, this turns into endless amounts of cardio (where's the fun in that?) and a fear of picking up a dumbbell.

Here are just a few reasons why strength training can benefit every body!

Benefit #1 - Increased Muscle Mass

Muscle mass naturally decreases with age. You have probably heard the phrase "use it or lose it" before. However, with a consistent strength training plan, you can reverse muscle decrease. On top of muscle mass, you will also increase mobility and flexibility.

Benefit #2 - Reduced Risk of Injury

Strength training can increase flexibility and balance as you age. Having a good muscle foundation reduces the risk of injury or falling.

"Having a good muscle base is important for all movement, balance, coordination and injury prevention," explains Dr. Adam Rivadeneyra, a sports medicine physician with Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, California.

Benefit #3 - Elevated Mental Health

Research shows that improvements in mental health and energy levels, as well as feelings of accomplishment can also improve body image.

Benefit #4 - Osteoporosis Prevention & Management

Strength training can significantly increase bone density. During any weight-bearing exercise, you are lightly stressing and strengthening the bones and muscles.

So- Why Strength Training?

Strength training is for everyone, even The Rock. The benefits listed here show the importance of adding it to your exercise routine. Not sure where to start? No problem! Our trainers here at Phoenix have you covered.
