International Yoga Day!

Happy International Day of Yoga! And happy Summer Solstice!

Yoga as a physical practice has so many benefits and can improve the quality of life. We are regularly amazed and thankful for the way that it has blessed so many of our clients here at Phoenix! Each person comes with different needs and goals, and yoga finds a way to meet and support each of them!

A regular yoga practice has a number of physical and mental health benefits, and supports your body in its own natural tendency toward health and healing. The purpose of yoga is, to put it simply, to build strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body.

Physically, regular yoga can lead to less chronic pain, caused by ailments from headaches to arthritis, lower blood pressure, and even ease insomnia. Over time, practitioners will see increased flexibility, increased muscle strength and tone, improved respiration, energy and vitality, a more balanced and maintained metabolism, and possibly weight reduction. Yoga can also lead to improved cardio and circulatory health, improved athletic performance and even some protection from injury.

But that’s not all. Aside from the physical advantages, yoga has a multitude of mental benefits as well. Stress can wreak havoc on the body, resulting in back or neck pain, sleeping problems, headaches, drug abuse, and an inability to concentrate. Yoga can be very effective in developing coping skills and maintaining a more positive outlook on life which can help relieve those chronic stress patterns. The incorporation of meditation and breathing can help improve a person’s mental well-being because it naturally fosters mental clarity and calmness, increases body awareness, relaxes the mind, centers attention, and sharpens concentration.

The applications are endless and the benefits are so plenty! If you haven’t tried yoga yet, but would like to, give us a call! We’d love to set you up for a private Personal Yoga Training session here at Phoenix, where you can have 45 minutes of a yoga practice custom curated for you.
